SIBO Buck-boost for AMOLED

Compared to traditional charge-pump solutions, a single-inductor bipolar-output (SIBO) power converter architecture provides space savings while maintaining high efficiency, also it provides dynamically adjustable OVSS for extended battery life. By providing bipolar outputs through a single inductor, our patented SIBO architecture enable the IC to extend battery life for space-constrained, battery-powered AMOLED products.



 

As shown in upper pictures, the extra charge pump circuit that generates the negative voltage is not needed in Bravotek design. So, the required external capacitors can be eliminated, which cause the smaller PCB size. 

 

Besides, the output voltages can be adjusted by SWIRE pin. Compared with the scheme of generating negative voltage by a charge pump circuit, this SIBO architecture can provide a stable high conversion efficiency throughout the entire negative voltage adjusting range instead of only near the certain value, which is shown in the figures below. Therefore, this solution can provide the optimal negative voltage output value according to different brightness requirements, which reduces the power consumption of the AMOLED display significantly. This is the best solution that can optimize the solution form factor as well as display power consumption.
